Your team got lucky!

I'm watching "Escape from LA" on AMC, even through all the shitty late-night commercials I am still watching it. THAT, that is a party.

Actually, your team played really well. :p

I'm right at the hang-gliding scene of this movie, I can't believe someone gave John Carpenter the money to make this thing. Thank god they did.

Okay, okay...

First: "Escape from LA" is awesome. It's taken me 14 years since I'd originally seen it on it's theatrical release to fully appreciate the film, and I am a hard-core John Carpenter fan.

Two: The cable gods have given me "Clockwork Orange" on Encore (NO COMMERCIALS, YEAHHH!!!) as an extra slice of cake! Time for a bit of the old ultra-violence!!

Y'all better wish me a happy birthday when you get back.  Cool

I was watching the game so to speak.. It was the background noise as I was busy doing more important things! Tongue jk

I was actually rooting for Canada in hockey.. We get enough gold medals.. And I think its only fair if the hosting country gets a good share of the medals!

We either outnumber or pay more than most of the other countries.. I would support the underdog in this kind of thing.. More interesting Tongue

WAIT!!!!! You guys continued to talk hockey after TheMentor interupted with one of the greatest movies of all time? Clockwork Orange is sooooooo more important than a stupid hockey game. I wish I would have thrown in clockwork instead of wasting the same ammount of time to see 5 goals. Off to watch a mini Kubrick marathon. Witch do I watch first 2001 or Clockwork?

VG this you get a temporary pass on (only because of your age) it is a must see though. Really all stanley Kubrick films. Clockwork, 2001 space odysee, full metal jacket to name a few.

^^ Agree agree agree, last night I lucked out and had two great films by two great directors on TV in a row.  Kubrick was a master auteur, he was his own.  I don't think he has ever done a bad film, honestly, I can't think of one, even "Eyes Wide Shut" was good.  Too bad Spielberg ruined "A.I." after Kubrick died, even though Kubrick never got to production stage when he was on the project, he pretty much nursed it along for two decades of pre-production.  What a great film that would have been if he had been able to film it.

Van: Canada and Russia (including their wins as the USSR and "The Unified Team") are the two teams tied with the most gold medals in ice hockey at 8 to the US' 2 gold medals--this is men's hockey.  Canada also leads in most combined medals (women's and men's hockey, all medals), with 18 (11 gold, 5 silver, 2 bronze); the US is in second there with 15 (3 gold, 10 silver, 2 bronze), and Russia has 12 in it's three incarnations.  Women's hockey started in 1998, where the US team won gold, and then Canada has won gold in all 3 subsequent games.  I actually don't really follow hockey at all, I'm just repeating Wikipedia info to support what jimmy's saying, because hockey absolutely is Canada's sport.  I've been to one Bruins game, last season, and I loved it; for me, it's both cathartic and exhilarating at the same time.

Also, my USA chant is in good fun, I don't buy into all that nationalism nonsense.  I do root for the US, but I watch the Olympics--which I enjoy tons--for the fact that it's the highest level of competition in all of sports and the spectacle of a gold medal performance is enough for me, no matter what team!  I am sad that it's over, honestly, b/c I didn't get to watch enough of it; for some reason I ALWAYS miss the luge, skeleton, and bobsled, every damn time!

And btw:

You people are COLD! C'mon now!

[Edit] AK: A few years ago the local art-house cinema, the Brattle, got ahold of a 35mm print of "A Clockwork Orange".  That was a real treat.
