^^ Agree agree agree, last night I lucked out and had two great films by two great directors on TV in a row. Kubrick was a master auteur, he was his own. I don't think he has ever done a bad film, honestly, I can't think of one, even "Eyes Wide Shut" was good. Too bad Spielberg ruined "A.I." after Kubrick died, even though Kubrick never got to production stage when he was on the project, he pretty much nursed it along for two decades of pre-production. What a great film that would have been if he had been able to film it.
Van: Canada and Russia (including their wins as the USSR and "The Unified Team") are the two teams tied with the most gold medals in ice hockey at 8 to the US' 2 gold medals--this is men's hockey. Canada also leads in most combined medals (women's and men's hockey, all medals), with 18 (11 gold, 5 silver, 2 bronze); the US is in second there with 15 (3 gold, 10 silver, 2 bronze), and Russia has 12 in it's three incarnations. Women's hockey started in 1998, where the US team won gold, and then Canada has won gold in all 3 subsequent games. I actually don't really follow hockey at all, I'm just repeating Wikipedia info to support what jimmy's saying, because hockey absolutely is Canada's sport. I've been to one Bruins game, last season, and I loved it; for me, it's both cathartic and exhilarating at the same time.
Also, my USA chant is in good fun, I don't buy into all that nationalism nonsense. I do root for the US, but I watch the Olympics--which I enjoy tons--for the fact that it's the highest level of competition in all of sports and the spectacle of a gold medal performance is enough for me, no matter what team! I am sad that it's over, honestly, b/c I didn't get to watch enough of it; for some reason I ALWAYS miss the luge, skeleton, and bobsled, every damn time!
And btw:
Y'all better wish me a happy birthday when you get back.
You people are COLD! C'mon now!
[Edit] AK: A few years ago the local art-house cinema, the Brattle, got ahold of a 35mm print of "A Clockwork Orange". That was a real treat.
